Vehicle Head on Collision

 

What happened:

On 15th May 2014 at around 0940 hrs, a private vehicle driven by an employee collided with a Contractor Vehicle at sand track. The employee was overtaking another vehicle but came face to face with the Contractor vehicle but could not steer away and both the vehicles rammed into each other. The employee sustained back injury and was admitted to hospital and the vehicles sustained significant damage.

Why it happened:

Improper Judgment: The employee in the private vehicle was overtaking without considering the upcoming vehicle.

Over Speeding – The private vehicle was driving at high speed.


Lessons Learned:

ü  Follow the posted speed limit –Speed in sand tracks shall be limited to a maximum of 80 km/hr.
ü  Extreme care shall be taken while overtaking. The driver shall judge the speed of the other vehicle and see the road ahead is clear.
